Did you know that you can create your own success?

Did you know that you can create your own success?

Try making a little progress. According to neuroscience, progress begets motivation, which begets more progress. This is the core concept of The Progress Loop. If you find that the sheer thought of that big project or major goal causes you angst, try backing up a bit, chunking that plan into bits, and taking on a little at a time.

You’ve heard that “baby steps moving forward” is not only prescriptive, but it allows your mind to digest and process your tasks more thoroughly and it produces a hit of dopamine—that’s the thrill you feel when you accomplish something. The more of these hits you get, the more motivated you are to keep going.

So let’s apply the concept by mapping a plan: how will you chunk your next project in order to smash your goal?

Don’t leave your big goals to sheer willpower—by the way, that concept is also problematic. We’ll take on those fallacies next week.

In the meantime—take a look at this article from Harvard Business Review which touts the merits of small wins: https://hbr.org/2011/05/the-power-of-small-wins
