Rest Is Not a Reward. It’s Leadership.
Since March, I’ve been moving at a pace that only purpose can justify. And it’s been powerful.
Here’s just a glimpse of the journey: ✅ I submitted the full manuscript for my fourth book, Call & Response: 10 Leadership Lessons from the Black Church—a love letter to cultural leadership, steeped in science and soul
✅ I spoke at and moderated multiple impactful leadership events
✅ I offered a keynote on ethics in leadership to graduating TCU seniors
✅ I joined DC Public Library for a heartfelt conversation on post-traumatic growth, leadership, and joy
✅ I shared insights with the media about leading through uncertainty with positive emotion
✅ I published weekly episodes and essays through Her Next Power Move—my podcast and Substack—covering emotional agility, neuroplasticity, the courage to choose joy, and behind-the-scenes reflections from Call & Response
✅ I led my coaching community, The Circle, through lessons on emotional literacy, resilience, values-based leadership, and science-backed micropractices
✅ I released multiple editions of the FlightPath newsletter through SOAR Academy
✅ I coached brilliant leaders navigating transition and transformation
✅ I hosted immersive workshops and developed new tools and digital resources for SOAR Academy
It’s been purposeful. But all of it calls for pause.
So beginning today, I’m stepping away for a long Easter holiday break. No email. No Zoom. Just quiet restoration.
Here’s why:
🧠 Neuroscience confirms that rest is when the brain processes, heals, and even cleans itself.
💡 Positive psychology research shows that recovery is where resilience, joy, and creative clarity are born.
So I’m choosing stillness.
No hustle. Just healing.
No over-functioning. Just being.
Because rest is revolutionary.
And I’ve earned every still, sacred moment.
If you’re reading this, maybe it’s your moment too.
