LMS on IG LIVE with @TheCodeVault Clip 2: How to handle privileged people in the workplace
It happened again…
You’re on a Webex, and it is your turn to add some value to the conversation, and here comes that colleagues that has a way of asserting themselves so it appears that they have far more authority than you.
Its belittling, and you’re tired of it. After all, who died and put them in charge, let alone at your expense.
Asserting authority is one way that people demonstrate their privilege, and it doesn’t matter the space. Privilege also comes in all flavors…and the result is bullying.
I enjoyed my live conversation with the ladies of The {Code} Vault on Instagram Live last night where I unpacked the concept of privilege and how it can impact women of color in the workplace from my new book No Thanks: 7 Ways to Say I’ll Just Include Myself.
How do you manage through this bias? I offer suggestions on how you can regain control, “flip the privilege” and shift our mindsets to assert ourselves despite. The first is to recognize where the feelings we have to suppress our authority in these situations come from. It’s cultural, folks…and it’s layered. #leadership #speakers #executivecoach
Thanks for having me. It was a pleasure to share.
